Nasal Polyps are soft sac like growths that form on the inside of the nose, inside of the nasal cavity.

Nasal Polyps are generally benign and are caused from asthma, allergies, recurring infections or other immune system maladies.

Large nasal polyps can prevent the sinuses from properly draining and cause mucus accumulation and other nasal conditions.

Symptoms include: Irritation, congestion, sneezing, runny nose, postnasal drip, and decreased ability to smell or taste.

Nasal Polyps can increase sinusitis and are most common in adults over 40. Allergies to aspirin and sensitivities to yellow dye also correlate with nasal polyps and allergy tests should be performed to determine if these substances are factors.

Treatment for nasal polyps depends on the severity.  In subtle cases a cortisone spray could remedy the symptoms, or in severe cases surgery can be necessary.

If you think you suffer from nasal polyps, or have any of the mentioned symptoms, schedule an appointment with one of our physicians and get a professional opinion.
